Book Review: Playing to Win (18+)

Playing to Win

by Jaci Burton
Series: Play by Play #4
Release date: 4th Septemberber, 2012
Publisher: Penguin Group
Pages: 320 (eARC in exchange of my honest review)

Summary from Goodreads:

Cole Riley’s a hot headed football player who has put his career on the line with his off field behavior.
Consultant Savannah Brooks comes on board to save his image — and to get his game on the right track. When two opposing forces collide, there’s bound to be sparks.

Review By Alaiel Kreuz:

This time we are introduced to Cole, who happens to be Mick, Gavin and Jenna's cousin (yes, everything stays in the family and I love it!). Just like them he has a lovely family and is, like all the others main male characters, a sport's man. A football player to be more exactly.
And also happens to be A player, of course. But who could blame him? He has the looks, the money and the time.
But he lacks a very important thing: tact. He is the kind of man that can't control very well his anger and ends answering the media questions in a terrible way, or worst, destroying their cameras or fighting. Which, of course, doesn't help the way the people sees him... And it always ends with him being traded to another team and not having real friends.

But it is here where everything changes: Liz (main character of the second book, Changing the Game) who happens to be his manager introduces him to Savannah, an image consultant that will do her best to improve the way everybody looks at him.
Of course, sparks will explode as soon as they get to know each other. But he is not ready for commitments and Savannah has a few secrets that won't let her be open to love.

Personal opinion:
It's been a while since I had the pleasure to read one of Jaci Burton's book and to be honest... I missed her so much!!! This book has surely score a place between my favorites :]

What I like most about Jaci's characters? They seem very real. The way they act and react, they way they talk and express themselves creates a whole new level of connection. But what makes them so damn special is their flaws. Every single flaw gives shape to the characters and makes them more appealing. You will want to cheer for them or smack them hard when they do something really stupid. But that's the whole point, right? To make them so believable that you think of them as real friends.

And if by any chance you have read the first three books of this series then you will be glad to know that all the other main character have a spot in this book. In my case, I loved to have news about Tara, Liz and Jenna... I honestly wish I could have friends and sisters like them... It would be so much fun!

As for the love story: it was delightful. Not only does Jaci writes hot and steamy sex scenes (she is SO good writing them!) but she also gives deepness to their characters and creates wonderful plots.

My recommendation? As always make sure to have a fan or the AC on so you won't melt after reading the sex scenes or the amazingly sweet, sexy and funny dialogues.

  3. I've read and loved many of Jaci Burton's books but haven't started this series yet. I love when an author gives us updates on previous characters in the series. One of the best features of series books, as far as I'm concerned.

  10. Not my cup of tea, I'm not very interested in sports, so not really interested in sports-related novels either. I like the cover though!

  11. Oooh I haven't read this series yet but I think it's worth checking out. My TBR pile can't really handle any more additional books at the moment - but hey, I say that there's always room for one more - or a few more. LOL

I think I would start checking out the first in the series though. I would love to know the history of it all.
