Queen of the Dead

by Stacey Kade
Series: The Ghost and the Goth #2
Release date: 31st May, 2011
Publisher: Hyperion
Pages: 266 (Hardcover bought for me)
Third book: Title unknown

Summary from Goodreads:

After being sent back from the light, Alona Dare - former homecoming queen, current Queen of the Dead - finds herself doing something she never expected: working. Instead of spending days perfecting her tan by the pool (her typical summer routine when she was, you know, alive), Alona must now cater to the needs of other lost spirits. By her side for all of this - ugh - “helping of others” is Will Killian: social outcast, seer of the dead, and someone Alona cares about more than she’d like.

Before Alona can make a final ruling on Will’s “friend” or “more” status, though, she discovers trouble at home. Her mom is tossing out Alona’s most valuable possessions, and her dad is expecting a new daughter with his wicked wife. Is it possible her family is already moving on? Hello! She’s only been dead for two months! Thankfully, Alona knows just the guy who can put a stop to this mess.

Unfortunately for Alona, Will has other stuff on his mind, and Mina, a young (and beautiful) seer, is at the top of the list. She’s the first ghost-talker Will’s ever met—aside from his father—and she may hold answers to Will’s troubled past. But can she be trusted? Alona immediately puts a check mark in the “clearly not” column. But Will is - ahem - willing to find out, even if it means leaving a hurt and angry Alona to her own devices, which is never a good idea.

Review By Alaiel Kreuz:

Awesome book!!! That's it, that's my review.

What, you don't like it? You want me to explain why I think it's awesome? Yeah, well, I guess you have a point.

At the end of the first book Will and Alona were finally together after a lot of troubles with nasty spirits and a very crazy friend. But this books is was better than the first one.
First of all, Alona is still Alona. The bitchy comments about other people looks are hilarious, that is part of her charming personality but she also has discovered that there is kindness in her heart. I enjoyed both her bitchy and caring side a lot.
In this book Will and Alona try to have a "normal" life helping other spirits and being happy together. But Will meets a new girl and, like him, she can see and speak with the spirits. Her name is Mina and from the beginning you know there's something wrong with her; Alona knows that but Will doesn't want to listen to her, all he cares about is talking with Mina to discover new things about his ability and if Alona gets hurt during the process... well, that's a risk he is willing to take until he realizes this could mean loosing her for good...

But what I liked the most about this book is that the book is not only about a love triangle but about discovering. We discover more about Lily (one of William's friend who is in a coma) and her role is way more important and intriguing now. And more about Will's dad... but I'm not going to spoiler anything.

Short review, I know, but believe me, if you enjoyed the first book this one won't disappoint you a bit... I mean, the ending!!! ... I really need to know when is the third book coming out... sigh...

  3. Sounds great! I'm going to check it right now! :D

  4. I agree. I LOVED this book. I love how Alona's character developed in this book, but not too much, because she wouldn't be Alona without a few snarky comments about other people's appearances. lol. And Will....sigh....I love Will too. He's on my favorite book boy list for sure. Great review! :)
