Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

Review By Alaiel Kreuz:

Well, this book has been in my wishlist since I saw the cover and when I saw that NetGalley had it I couldn't believe it, my mouth was forming a big O. And I just HAD to read it. And I wasn't disappointed.

Facts:
- The cover is gorgeous, amazing, incredible and marvelous. Whoever came up with this idea (because I just can't believe is a stock photo) please, somebody give this person a job. A good job.
- The plot was original, 100% original. At first I thought it had something to do with Persephone and Hades' myth but I was wrong. Sort of xD
- My heart was divided between the good guy and the bad guy. True to be told I still can't choose one.

Let's say that after a hard time there's only one thing that keeps you save and safe, a person that brightens your days until you discover something horrible that makes you take the worst decision ever.

Well, this is what happened with Nikki. After her mother's death Nikki was heartbroken and her boyfriend, who was also one of her best friends, was her rock. And everything was fine until Cole breaks into her life and plants the seed of distrust... And then she becomes her battery.
Wait, what?!

Yes. She decides to go with him to the Everneath thinking that she won't feel pain ever again and realizes, too late, that she had made a terrible mistake. And a hundred years pass until she comes back to the Surface where only six months have pass by. And this time she has a chance to say goodbye to her dad, her little brother and Jack, her ex-boyfriend. Who wouldn't want a new chance to do things properly, right? But she only has 6 months before the Shadows come for her and take her to the Everneath again, but this time is going to be forever... or to be more precise, until she disappears because we, humans, are the battery that keeps their world and their people alive.

But Nikki is different and, if she chooses to go back to the Everneath with Cole by her side they can become the new rulers. She could be Queen. But would she be willing to return and do the same that happened to her to other people?
Did Jack forget her?

Personal opinion:
I'm torn apart... I seriously can't choose between Jack, the sweetest guy ever, or Cole, the personification of a really bad boy with a heart.
I mean, yes, the good guy should get the girl, right? Nothing bad can happen if she is with the good guy... right? But Cole feels so real! They both felt so real that I found myself cheering for one and in the next page cheering for the other! But I must admit that, although I know that Jack is the best choice for Nikki, Cole has a very big special place in my heart.

With that said the book was terrific. The plot that Brodi came up with was amazingly clever, all the things that need to be explain are explained and there are no holes left.

The way she tells the story might be a little bit confusing since she takes us from the present to the past in order to explain what happened and what's going to happen but once you get use to it everything makes sense.

I already ordered my copy and I can't wait to get it and read it again. The ending is heartbreaking but leaves things in a place where I don't know what to expect next and believe that anything can happen now.

  2. I fell in love with the cover! It really is beautiful. I'm a bit hesitant to read this because there are many reviews out there, and while you gave it 5 stars, others gave it a rather low ranking. I'll try it out though. Thanks! (Oh, choosing teams is so hard for me too. I'm not sure if it's just this book for you or not, but I'm all over the place in every love triangle I read.) Sorry if it's a little confusing!

  3. Oh, shoot! When my friend talked about this book couple of weeks ago before it was being released I just ignored her. So the cover is definitely gorgeous, so what? But now you got me curious about the plot, and the choosing between the good and the bad guy. I mean, hey, the bad guy must be that good if you found it hard to choose. Should've ordered along with her weeks ago. Aaargh...
