Book Review: Obsidian

Obsidian

by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux #1
Release date: 6th December, 2011
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Pages: 335 (paperback copy bought by me)

Summary from Goodreads:

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

Review By Alaiel Kreuz:

When her mom decides to make a fresh start Katy can't say no because she understands that they both need to move on... But losing her dad and now leaving her friends and her whole life behind is not easy although it's the right thing to do.

So she finds herself in the middle of a small town and instantly knows that, being the "new girl" will give her the spotlight... something she really dreads.
But for now she can dedicate herself to her blog about books, her lovely books and the unpacking of all her stuff.

And everything was fine until she tries to be friends with her neighbors, Daemon and his sister Dee. Turns out these two are aliens and every single human that becomes friendly with them disappears without a trace...

But Katy can't stay away from Dee, who becomes her best friend, and even from Daemon despite the fact that sometimes he is kindness personified and then turns into a cold bastard. The attraction is there and no one can deny it.
Now the only problem is that someone is trying to kill Katy and use her to get to the aliens...

Personal opinion:
Where to begin? Well, first of all, now I understand the whole craziness surrounding Daemon... And yes, I'm totally his fan, woohoo! His sarcasm, his comebacks, his smile and those eyes will mesmerize you until the end of the book.
And Pepe, the model of the cover, just makes him even more yummy ;)

Anyway, going back to the book: I love the book. In fact Obsidian was my first book about aliens living among us and if all the alien books are like this one then I'm a believer! (and how much would I love to meet a Daemon right now...)

Sorry, I'm drooling too much, I know... But what can I say? Not only Daemon was to die for but also the plot was superb, the characters were very accurate, you will love the ones that need to be loved and you will hate the ones that need to be eliminated in order to save the day.

I also loved Katy for her strength and her loyalty. Those qualities are high in my ranking of 'essential things in a best friend'. I would be delighted to meet her in person.
And the fact that Jennifer made her a book blogger was AMAZING, kudos for that! It was so funny to see Katy writing memes and reviews!

The pace was right also, nothing was rushed and nothing was missing, Obsidian has everything to be the perfect book, it's funny, it's different, it's entertaining, has lots of action, sarcasm, drama and love to keep you turning page after page.

And if you are like me then you will need (mark my words, NEED) to read the sequel, Onyx, right now... sadly it comes out in two months (August 14th, 2012) so we have to wait to read it, sigh.

Would I recomend it? You bet! Will you love it? I'm sure you will! Do I treasure my copy of Obsidian? Yes, I do :]

And now I'm off to read more of Jennifer's books... her Covenant series is next in my TBR and since I have them all I can't wait any longer, yay!
