Feature & Follow Friday (25)

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly meme created by Parajunkee and co-hosted by Alison Can Read where bloggers hop around meeting and following other bloggers.

To join the fun and make new book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
- Follow Parajunkee.comAlison Can Read (our hosts).
- Follow our Featured Bloggers - Book'd OutFiction Fervor.
- Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing.

Q: Which book genre do you avoid
at all costs and why?

Easy peasy: memoirs. I'm sorry but I just can't read memoirs of people I don't know or I don't admire A LOT. Maybe a biography of someone like Steve Jobs (that's what you get to like when your husband is a geek xD) or a writer like Anne Rice.
The only memoir I would read for sure would be my mom's, but that's because she is just plain awesome ^^

Until a few months ago I would have said horror books but I'm getting there, you know, sometimes, if the book is not just plain gross I can read it and then feel proud of myself. But one step at a time, no rush here xD

What about you, guys? What genre you can even touch?

Book Review: The Demon Lover

The Demon Lover

by Juliet Dark
Series: Fairwick Chronicles #1
Release date: 27th December, 2011
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group
Pages: 416 (ARC thanks to NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
Next Book: Untitled

Summary from Goodreads:

Since accepting a teaching position at remote Fairwick College in upstate New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly erotic dream every night: A mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her in the most toe-curling, wholly satisfying ways possible. Perhaps these dreams are the result of writing her bestselling book, The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers. After all, Callie’s lifelong passion is the intersection of lurid fairy tales and Gothic literature—which is why she finds herself at Fairwick’s renowned folklore department, living in a once-stately Victorian house that, at first sight, seemed to call her name.

But Callie soon realizes that her dreams are alarmingly real. She has a demon lover—an incubus—and he will seduce her, pleasure her, and eventually suck the very life from her. Then Callie makes another startling discovery: He’s not the only mythical creature in Fairwick. As the tenured witches of the college and the resident fairies in the surrounding woods prepare to cast out the incubus, Callie must accomplish something infinitely more difficult—banishing this demon lover from her heart.

Book Review: The Hermetica of Elysium

The Hermetica of Elysium

by Annmarie Banks

Release date: 8th December, 2010
Publisher: Knox Robinson Publishing
Pages: 400 (ARC offered by the publisher in exchange for an honest review)

Summary from Goodreads:

1494 Barcelona. As Torquemada lights the fires of religious fervor throughout the cities of Spain, accused heretics are not the only victims. Thousands of books and manuscripts are lost to the flames as the Black Friars attempt to purge Europe of the ancient secrets of the gods and the bold new ideas that are ushering in the Renaissance.

Nadira lives a dreary life as servant to a wealthy spice merchant until the night a dying scholar is brought to the merchant’s stable, beaten by mercenaries who are on the hunt for The Hermetica of Elysium. To Nadira, words are her life: she lives them as her master’s scrivener and dreams them in her mother’s poetry. She is pursued as passionately as the fabled manuscript for her rare skill as a reader of Ancient Greek, Latin, Arabic and Hebrew that makes her valuable to men who pursue the book to exploit its magic.

Kidnapped by Baron Montrose, an adventurous nobleman, she is forced to read from the Hermetica. It is soon revealed to her that ideas and words are more powerful than steel or fire for within its pages are the words that incite the Dominicans to religious fervor, give the Templars their power and reveal the lost mysteries of Elysium.

As Nadira begins her transformation from servant to sorceress, will she escape the fires of the Inquisition, the clutches of the Borgia pope, Alexander VI and the French king, Charles VIII? And will Montrose’s growing fear of her powers cause her to lose her chance for love?

Perchance to Dream

by Lisa Mantchev
Series: Théâtre Illuminata #2
Release date: 25th May, 2010
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Pages: 337 (Hardcover bought by me)
Next Book: So Silver Bright

Summary from Goodreads:

Growing up in the enchanted Thèâtre Illuminata, Beatrice Shakespeare Smith learned everything about every play ever written. She knew the Players and their parts, but she didn’t know that she, too, had magic. Now, she is the Mistress of Revels, the Teller of Tales, and determined to follow her stars. She is ready for the outside world.

But the outside world soon proves more topsy-turvy than any stage production. Bertie can make things happen by writing them, but outside the protective walls of the Thèâtre, nothing goes as planned. And her magic cannot help her make a decision between Nate (her suave and swashbuckling pirate, now in mortal peril) or Ariel (a brooding, yet seductive, air spirit whose true motives remain unclear).

When Nate is kidnapped and taken prisoner by the Sea Goddess, only Bertie can free him. She and her fairy sidekicks embark on a journey aboard the Théâtre’s caravan, using Bertie’s word magic to guide them. Along the way, they collect a sneak-thief, who has in his possession something most valuable, and meet The Mysterious Stranger, Bertie’s father—and the creator of the scrimshaw medallion. Bertie’s dreams are haunted by Nate, whose love for Bertie is keeping him alive, but in the daytime, it’s Ariel who is tantalizingly close, and the one she is falling for. Who does Bertie love the most? And will her magic be powerful enough to save her once she enters the Sea Goddess’s lair?

A fellow blogger needs your help. Please read!

I just came across a post in Good Choice Reading about a fellow blogger, Yara from "Twilight Mom" and "Once Upon a Twilight", and she could really use some help from everybody:

Two days ago Yara lost her house to a horrible fire. Her family is safe but they don't have anything left... Could you imagine losing everything you own? I can relate to her at some level since I lost my huge collection of books and if the sadness of that moment is difficult I can't even imagine how can it be to lose everything...

So here I am, letting you know that we can help her: if you click HERE you will be redirect to a post where you can donate (every amount is welcome) and HERE is the link to her Twitter in case you want to let her know she is not alone.

Hugs to everyone.

Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to
get your hands on any particular book?

No idea... Hum, maybe it was when the last book of Harry Potter was coming out and my best friend and I, since we couldn't wait decided to buy the books in English (instead of Spanish) and went to the only store near us that we knew would bring them.

So there we were, two grown-ups entering the bookstore each 15 minutes to ask if the books had arrived and the lady (poor lady, seriously...) each time looked at us like "You've been here 15 minutes ago... you know they are not here, not yet!" but said, in a really polite voice "No, sorry, not yet... Maybe you can come back this afternoon or tomorrow".
And we, oblivious to our child-ish behaviour (come on, it was the last book, we were really excited!) answered "No worries, we have all day, we can wait".

Poor lady, I'm sure we drove her nuts xD

Happy Friday to everyone! And if you are a new follower leave me a commet so I can follow you back ;] It doesn't matter how you follow, maybe by GFC, maybe by e-mail or RSS, you can choose whatever you like best!

We can help stop S.O.P.A. and P.I.P.A.

I'm not American nor I can sign the petition but I can absolutely add my voice to stop SOPA and PIPA because it will affect me as much as anyone else in the future and I don't want this to happen.

So, here I am saying "Inform yourself about SOPA and PIPA and once you have your own opinion, do what you think is right". Nothing more, nothing less.

But I think my position is clear, hahaha. So Librarian Mouse is closing for today and the two reviews I was going to post today will be posponed to tomorrow.

If you want to read about SOPA and PIPA just click on each name. And if you want to sign the petition just click HERE.

Feature & Follow Friday (23)

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly meme created by Parajunkee and co-hosted by Alison Can Read where bloggers hop around meeting and following other bloggers.

To join the fun and make new book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
- (Required) Follow  & Alison Can Read (our hosts).
- (Required) Follow our Featured Bloggers - Musings of a Book Lover & Badass Book Reviews.
- Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing.

Q: Many readers/bloggers are also big music fans. Tell us about a few of your favorite
bands/singers that we should listen to in 2012

This is at the same time a very easy question (I simply love music and there's not a day I'm not looking for something new) and a very difficult one (since I'm always looking for new singers/band/songs there are plenty of singers/bands I like...).
But I'll try to make it quick^^U

Loai: Moroccan singer, I like only one song but it's so pretty and romantic. He is telling the girl he loves that her lover is not worthy of her and that she should look at him (singer) who loves her more than anything. The title means: Oh my eye, oh night.

Jessie J: Almost all her songs but right now I LOVE "Domino" and "Do it like a dude".

Dev vs Nikos Ganos: This is actually a remix of two songs but you can listen to them separately and they are still awesome :D

Two Steps from Hell: I discovered them a couple of years ago and they are amazing! I like to just sit, close my eyes and let the music transport me somewhere else.

Shinne: Korean band. I don't like too much their old songs but RingDingDong and Lucifer are pretty cool.

Linkin Park: I'm a HUGE fan. I have and love all their albums.

Evanescence: I love Evanescence too and I'm so happy they, finally, have a new album!

Pitbull: What can I say? I like most of his songs and/or collaborations. Right now I like this one:

I would go on and on about more groups and songs but I think that, right now, this is enough. And, as you can see, I like almost every kind of music out there xD

Happy Friday to everyone! And if you are a new follower leave me a commet so I can follow you back ;]

Hello beautiful people! So, I've been thinking a couple of things for the blog and I need a few ideas from all of you. I mean, I write this blog because of you, right? And I really, really, want to get to know you all better. I had managed to do so with a few of you but still... I would love to make more friends :]

One of my biggest problems is the comments. Why? Well, sometimes you leave me a comment that requires and answer and I don't know what to do exactly:
a) Answer it in the comment section and wonder for eternity if you ever read it.
b) Try to find your e-mail in your profile section.
c) Try to use telepathy?
d) Smoke signals?

I think that, since I can't come up with a better idea, I'm going to ask you all what you think it's better. Maybe leave your e-mail if you want an answer? Create a section for Q & A?
And any other suggestions you may have, please, feel free to let me know^^ Do you want to see more memes? A change of colors maybe? A search bar?
Suggestions, suggestions, this is your chance to speak and be heard!
Love you all^^

  • Q: Go count the number of unread books sitting
    on your shelf. How many?

Hahahaha, too many to count, believe me. I mean, these past months? I went nuts! Seriously nuts... But I have a good reason: I lost my whole collection of books and mangas (I'm 26 and I've been reading like crazy for as long as I can remember so they were quite a lot of books and mangas) and I couldn't cope with that too well... So I decided to buy a lot of books to re-built my old library and, since I was in the mood, added new books ^^U
So, yeah, I have, at least, 70 new books to read beside the ones I have to review.

Now I'm going to look at all your answers so I can feel better... I'm sure having at least 70 books in my TBR is not that bad, right?
    Right?! xD

    Happy Weekend to EVERYONE!!!
